We rolled from the airport, straight to the campsite. Gus, picking me up at the Gunnison airport Photo c. Day One Flying into Colorado over The Rockies. This will be the first part… Part One: A Photo Journal. We used a lot of different gear that was supplied to us by many different brands, which I’ll touch on.īut, after going through what I’ve gathered and the photos I’ve taken, as well as going through all of the amazing photos that Eric and his assistant Emma took, I decided that first, we should let the photos do the talking. I saw several new, up-and-coming companies that were local to Colorado. The topography of the area varies drastically, from winding gravel roads through forests to summiting treeless, alpine passes then back down to the scrubby high desert and riding through huge valleys of hay fields.Īll of which provided endless views and dramatic landscapes that were, quite simply, jaw-dropping. There are approximately 1200+ miles of unpaved and groomed gravel roads throughout Gunnison County. The trip was to highlight the amazingly diverse area of Gunnison and show off some of the stellar gravel riding that can be done there. The trip was put together by polar explorer Eric Larson, his wife, and outdoor industry vet, Maria Hennessy of Smak Strategies, working alongside the Gunnison Crested Butte Tourism and Prosperity Partnership (TAPP). In mid-September, I was invited to camp and ride bikes in Gunnison County, Colorado for 5 days. It can also be a great way to set up base camp for epic gravel adventures. Plan on riding self supported.Looking for a gravel adventure? Maybe one where you can experience the great outdoors without having to carry all your gear on your bike? Well, glamping (glamorous camping) isn’t just for celebrities and casual campers. There are no services outside of Sonoita. Winding down through Fish Camp Rd and Gardner Canyon Rd, the last portion of the ride east of Hwy 83 gives you a taste of the Empire Ranch area before returning to the Copper Brothel Brewery in Sonoita for post-ride food and beer. This route runs through a few accesses to the Arizona Trail and passes the road going to Melendrez Pass. It slowly transitions to more traditional double track as it winds around through Gardner Canyon towards Greaterville, bypassing Kentucky Camp. Santa Rita Rd is a gravel bikers dream surface. Like the San Rafael Valley, the east foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains features stunning views and seemingly endless miles of riding. Our favorite ride for this area starts at the Copper Brothel Brewery in Sonoita because that's where we want it to end. The better option is to either load the gpx file onto your device or use one of the Ride With GPS files along with their app. It routes to the roads, not the trails the route is based on. Strava Route Note: Strava's route tool does not do well on Hunter. Hunter Canyon has become a popular destination and start point for local mountain biking. You'll also find a challenging ride across Lynngitimate that takes you to Cooper Loop, then back. Click the More Hunter Canyon Rides button to find more rides including an easy ride and Lynngitimate, the newest Mountain Bike Trail in Cochise County that's quickly becoming a favorite. The ride below covers the whole trail network in one ride. You'll find fast, flowy downhills, some with tight twisty turns and a good share of well groomed, dry creekbed trails. There's definitely some climbing to be had. Hunter Canyon offers a network of trails with something for everyone. The second is at mile 7.6 and drops to the Miller Canyon upper parking lot. The first is at mile 6.35 and leads into the Cooper Switchbacks. They can be easy to miss even though they're marked. On Clark Springs, then Cooper Trail there are two very sharp left turns, almost full U-turns to watch for. Ride options include starting from the lower parking lot on Carr Canyon Rd, (mile 3.7 on the map) and if you're really ambitious, continue up to the top of Carr Canyon Rd, then descend back down to the Clark Springs Trail to continue the loop. This also means you finish the ride with the Miller Canyon descent, arguably the best part of the ride. Most riders prefer to start at the beginning of Perimeter Trail which is considered the most challenging part of the ride. It consists of Perimeter Trail, Carr Canyon Road, Clark Springs Trail, John Cooper Trail and the Miller Canyon descent. Cooper Loop is most commonly ridden counter-clockwise. However, the National Museum in Stockholm told the AFP it was “naturally” opposed to actions that risk damaging works of art. The incident at the National Museum in Stockholm follows a wave of climate protests at museums and art institutions in Canada, the United States, and Europe, all aimed at drawing attention to large government subsidies for the fossil fuel industry as well as the growing impact of climate change around the world. Painting It Red Review by Dean Carlson + The Beautiful South once again run aground with diminishing sales, bungled CD pressings, and - probably the most troubling - the reported departure of longtime vocalist Jacqueline Abbott. The police press release was also updated to note that the two women were charged with “suspicion of serious damage.” Police were alerted and arrested the two women, according to a press release from the Stockholm Region police, which said in a statement, “The crime is currently classified as aggravated vandalism. It is unclear whether more people than the two arrested are involved in the incident, but a number of people have been checked and the police will, among other things, review the course of events with the help of the museum’s surveillance cameras.” “In dialogue with the lender, we’re now looking into the possibilities of reinstalling the artwork in the exhibition,” Hanna Tottmar, head of press at the museum, told The Art Newspaper. It later confirmed the painting was unharmed. “The painting, which is encased in glass, is now being inspected by museum conservators to determine whether there is any damage,” the press office told CNN. The museum’s press office confirmed that two people smeared paint on The Artist’s Garden at Giverny around 2:30 p.m. “We should lower our emissions by 31 percent. Återställ Våtmarker spokesperson Helen Wahlgren told AFP that a climate catastrophe “is also a health crisis” with “millions of people already dying from the climate disaster.” She also said the Swedish government needed to do more to honor its international climate commitments. It also claimed responsibility for it in an interview with the AFP and argued that “gorgeous gardens like those in Monet’s painting will soon be a distant memory.” The two protestors wore T-shirts with the logo of the environmental organization Återställ Våtmarker (Restore Wetlands), which released a video of the protest on Twitter and Facebook. The larger capacity newer drives are primarily responsible for this figure with them accounting for 69 of total active drives but only 57 of drive failures. Strictly speaking, Toshiba and Western Digital’s own brands perform relatively well. Of course, this data is unfair to Seagate because its hard drive has the highest level of power and power-on time. The latest report shows that the AFR for all drives in operation rose to 1.01 in 2021 up from 0.93 in 2020 but significantly below the 1.83 reported in 2019. The HDS5C4040ALE630 (4TB) of HGST (4K) with the highest annual failure rate is 4.68%, only considering that the bad disk has only one block and the inspection time is too short, and the reference is not large. Of course, this model has the longest service time the second fault is Seagate’ model ST12000NM0007, capacity 12TB, which is the service time too long. There are a total of 98,184 mechanical hard disks in the statistics. The reason why it is less than the total number is because the test discs with few power-on time and the models with less than 45 pieces are excluded. The annualized failure rate of all hard drives is 1.08%, which is the historical minimum.Īmong them, the highest fault is the Seagate ST4000DM000 with a capacity of 4TB, and 134 pieces are “dead”. Look at the second quarter –Blackblaze Q2 2018 hard drive failure rates report As of June 30, BB has a total of 100,254 hard drives, including 1989 boot disks and 98,265 data disks. 230,921 DRIVE FAILURES 2,963 DRIVE DAYS 79M ANNUALIZED FAILURE RATE 1. This cuts the number of models down to 13, and the model with the highest failure rate here is a 12TB Seagate model (ST12000NM0007) with an AFR of 2.03 percent.Storage service provider Backblaze released the hard disk service report for the second quarter of 2018. Backblaze, long a champion of home-grown hardware, succumbs to the lure of commodity serversįor this reason, the company has drawn up another table comprising drives which have a minimum drive days value of one million and are larger than 8TB in capacity. Hard Drive Reliability - Annualized Hard Drive Failure Rates.Back up for a minute – Backblaze HD reliability stats show oldies can be goodies.Toshiba reveals 30TB disk drive to arrive by 2024.Backblaze report finds SSDs as reliable as HDDs.However, Backblaze cautions that the number of “drive days” (the number of days all the drives of a specific model were operational during the defined period) for these is on the low side, leading to a wide gap between the low and high confidence interval values and therefore lower confidence in those AFR figures. The latest report shows that the AFR for all drives in operation rose to 1.01 in 2021 up from 0.93 in 2020 but significantly below the 1.83 reported in 2019. Three drives can be picked out from the table with the highest failure rates, and these are an 8TB HGST model (HUH728080ALE604) at 6.26 percent a Seagate 14TB model (ST14000NM0138) at 4.86 percent and Toshiba’s 16TB (MG08ACA16TA) with 3.57 percent. But, as with the 4TB Toshiba model, these drives have very wide confidence interval gaps because of a relatively limited number of data points.īackblaze found that the lifetime AFR across all these drives is 1.39 percent, which is the same as during the previous quarter and down from the 1.45 percent found during the same quarter in 2021. Other drives that Backblaze reveals as having zero failures during Q2 are an 8TB HGST model (HUH728080ALE604), as well as some 14TB and 16TB Toshiba drives (MG07ACA14TEY and MG08ACA16TA respectively). The AFR for these drives is just 0.79 percent, but this comes with the caveat that the lifetime confidence interval gap for them is 1.3 percent, which means Backblaze is lacking enough data to be confident of the true AFR. However, the next to oldest drives in Backblaze’s portfolio are 4TB Toshiba drives (model MD04ABA400V) which have been in service for an average 85.3 months and these recorded zero failures during Q2. Backblaze is back with an update on its hard disk and SSD failure rates for the third quarter of 2021. “At some point in the future we can expect these drives will be cycled out, but with their lifetime AFR at just 0.87 percent, they are not first in line,” said Backblaze’s principal cloud storage evangelist Andy Klein. However, there are two crucial differences between Chion’s traditional acousmêtre and the acousmêtre as encountered in Her, which can explain why the effect of acousmatic sound in Jonze’s film is so unique. Chion notes that traditionally acousmêtres are the villains in films due to the “panoptic fantasy” (“the fantasy of total mastery of space by vision” (24)). Chion defines “acousmatic” as “a sound that is heard without its cause or source being seen” (18) and an “acousmêtre” is an acousmatic being, “one who is not-yet-seen, but who remains liable to appear in the visual field at any moment” (21). In Her, Samantha can be conceived of as an “acousmêtre”. The film was was nominated for Best Original Score and Best Original Song at the 86 thAcademy Awards, and won Best Original Screenplay. The film’s score was written by Arcade Fire and Owen Pallet, and “The Moon Song” was written by Karen O. Through music and sound editing, the film provides insight into the development of intimacy between Samantha and Theodore and ultimately prompts the audience to reflect on the nature and limits of love. These scenes rely heavily on montage, acousmatic voices, and play with the audience’s perception of diegetic and non-diegetic sound. At three different points in the film, she composes music that is meant to represent a physical presence in the scene. One of the ways in which the film addresses Samantha’s lack of physical form is through music. This will allow me to explore the way that the film navigates the fact that Samantha, as an OS, does not have a physical body yet she and Theodore have an intimate and mutually fulfilling relationship. This research report aims to engage with theories surrounding the relationship between voice and body in film – particularly Michel Chion’s idea of the “acousmêtre”, Mary Ann Doane’s “fantasmatic body”, and notions of the voice as corporeal – in the context of Her. Spike Jonze’s 2013 film, Her, tells the story of Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) who, following the dissolution of his marriage, embarks on a relationship with an artificially intelligence Operating System (OS), named Samantha (Scarlett Johansson). This essay was originally written in November 2016 for the “Hearing Film: Film Sound and Music” module of my MA in English Literature. And lastly, the Export persona provides tools for creating versions of the image outside the application, from specifying file types and compression levels to preset slices. The Tone Mapping persona is exclusive for working with HDR (high dynamic range) effects, which can apply to single images as well as several merged shots. The Develop persona kicks in when opening a raw file for pre-processing, akin to Adobe Camera Raw. The Liquify persona is a playground for distorting areas when retouching (creating an editable mesh of the entire image and then pushing and pulling the pixels to do things like make areas seem slimmer or to correct distortion). The Photo persona is the main editing interface, with adjustments, layers, masks, and the like. These personas include: Photo, Develop, Tone Mapping and Export. Working modes, aka 'Personas'Īffinity Photo is built around four working modes, referred to as “personas,” each of which contains its own specialized tools. If photo editing beyond the basics is new to you, it’s easy to pick up. That said, if you’re already familiar with Adobe’s flagship, it won’t take long to orient yourself in Affinity Photo. How does it perform for photographers? Does it get in the way when handling familiar operations? Does it improve the editing experience? Comparisons to Photoshop inevitably come up, and I’ll refer to them when needed, but this isn’t specifically a comparative review between Affinity Photo and Photoshop. Software should be evaluated on its own merits, and for the most part I’m looking at Affinity Photo through that lens. Getting StartedĪffinity Photo's personas break up the editing experience into five main categories. You won’t find some of the specialized features Photoshop includes, such as its 3D tools, but most everything else is there – sometimes to Affinity Photo’s detriment. We’re beyond the point where photographers will put up with limited software to save a few bucks, and with Affinity Photo, we don’t have to. However, simply offering a less expensive image editor isn’t enough. If you’re already familiar with Adobe’s flagship, it won’t take long to orient yourself in Affinity Photo. It also has all the essential nutrients for the healthy growth of a succulent. This type of soil flushes away all the excess water from the soil and dries way faster. Therefore, consider buying a good quality potting soil that is fast draining. Bears paw is very likely to get root rot as they are prone to it. When you keep them in poor soil that retains a lot of moisture in the soil and causes root rot. They need fast-draining soil to grow healthy. Poor Soilīears paw does not like to sit in damp soil. This will ensure that the Bears paw is growing healthy. I keep my succulents near the window or under a cloth shed so that they get indirect sunlight throughout the day. Therefore, you must keep them in a partial light every day. This causes stress in a plant and they start to die. When they do not get enough light they start to stretch and grow rapidly in a particular direction. Inappropriate Lightīears paw loves bright light, these succulents grow healthy and beautiful when they get a good amount of light throughout the day. When the plant is underwatered it has shriveled, dry leaves and that can also be the reason why your Bears paw are dying.īear Paw Succulent Leaves Falling Off | How To Save Them? 2. Bears paw are more prone to rot, so you must avoid overwatering them. Overwatering causes many problems in the plant. Water them only when the soil is dry and repeat this for every watering schedule. Now, let’s quickly get to know: Why are Bears paw succulents dying?īears paw succulents mostly die due to root rot, improper lighting, or overwatering. So I did some research and consulted a few gardening experts and they explained to me the reasons for it. I was confused that even after caring for it correctly how can this happen. The plant was quite healthy for a few months and suddenly it started to change its appearance. These are super easy to grow plants and do not need much care and attention. Their leaves resemble the paws of Bear and that is how they got the name. Bears paw succulent is one of the tiny and beautiful plants.
